CLIENT: University of Tasmania

PROJECT: Library Learning Hubs - Interior Designer: Karryn Irwin; Architects: Crawford Shurman

The 'Learning Hubs' have been inserted as new spaces for learning within the existing University libaries. These knowledge centres are now the place to “learn how to learn”, where coffee, chatting and lounging are all compulsory and in- dividuality is encouraged. The design solution offers students a range of different work options including casual lounges, quiet study, formal and casual meeting spaces, and counter and café style work areas. To identify these new spaces Futago designed distinctive identity, signage and environmental for the hubs. The concept (developed in collaboration with Interia and Crawford Shurman Architects) was based on the idea on an airport, a transit facility dedicated to the traveller and their individual journey. An airport also represents an exchange, a transfer of knowledge – our most valuable resource.
